DJ Ronald!

I am a Drum and Bass DJ living in Utrecht (Netherlands). I am a DJ on the VirtualDJ internet radio station channel 3 where I plays the latest DnB releases live fridays at 15pm (GMT+1). I am always looking for places to perform, because there is only one thing better than mixing the music I love and that is doing it for a live crowd. Please send me an e-mail if you want me to play at your party, or know of a place where I can perform.

Though I usually write a blog post when I post a new drum and bass set I decided to make this overview page anyway, for convenience and to have a orderly archive in stead of a bunch of blog entries. Usually the images link to the MP3 files, and all sets have a complete tracklisting in the ‘lyrics’ field.

Demos

Techstep / Jump-up (2012-03-19)
I’ve wikipediaed the living shit out of Drum and Bass subgenres and I believe it is mainly techstep and Jump-up in this demo.  I could of course still be wrong ’cause music genre classification not an exact science. I recorded this set last night live at VirtualDJ radio, and it actually has an Easteregg hidden* inside! Enjoy listening to the mix, and spread the word (about me being great and always looking for gigs).

Trying to be Popular (2011-07-12)
Almost everybody wants to be popular, be liked by everyone, be the cool kid. While the demo above is obviously awesome it is a bit heavy for the general population. This second demo showcases my other Drum and Bass specialization. More pop-music like: lot’s of vocals, some covers and remixes and lot’s of catchy-ass melodies.

* Somewhere I dropped a chocolade easteregg onto the play/pause button of the active deck causing an abrupt end to the track.

VirtualDJ Radio sets

I play every friday from 15:00 till 17:00 (GMT+1) on the VirtualDJ internet radio station, where I am a DJ at channel 3, to keep my mixing skills fresh and because I like mixing all my new music for an audience. You can listen to some of the latest releases and get the energy needed for the final hours before the weekend kicks in.

Because I play irregular I announce every set on Twitter and in my DJ calendar. I’ve stopped posting the recordings here, but you can check them out at my radio DJ profile page.

Biography

I started as an all-round DJ at my student association in 1999 and grew out to be one of the best in-house DJ’s, playing at all mayor internal events and hired for many graduation parties and a few other external parties. After about 7 years I  put and end to this career, because there was no more room to grow in this closed environment and my interest in popular music simply isn’t enough to pursue a broader all-round career.

The passion for performing and mixing remained, so in April 2010 I decided to buy a DJ controller for my laptop and started mixing music I was actually passionate about. Because of my love for drum and bass and earlier DJ experience it took little time to assemble a music collection and learn the skills needed to play a massive drum and bass set.

After a handful of small gigs 2011 is the start of a new DJ career. Armed with the skills needed, the motivation required and with a nice exclamation mark behind my name I do weekly radio show on the internet and am actively looking for places to rock the dancefloor!
