I don’t feel like typing a long story about how I did yet another set and how well it went. Just listen to it if you want.
Last november I posted a video of a mix daring you all to show me yours, since I already showed mine. The response was as expected, completely nothing. Well, here’s another video that has been sitting on my laptop for months waiting for final rendering and uploading.
In November I predicted that sometime soon I’d run out of ideas for my monthly sets, in december I posted a video and this month I also haven’t prepared a themed set. But fear not, for I have something else in store.
Early this month I was approved as a DJ for VirtualDJ Radio, a internet radio station where I will play at least one or two hours a week (because that’s the minimum amount). I will play there every Friday at 15:00 (GMT+1), if I have the time of course, and at irregular other times which I will announce on Twitter.
I really enjoy to play a lot, and playing for an audience (even though it consists mostly of anonymous internet users) helps me to stay motivated, keep up with the latest drum and bass releases to be able to play what’s hot and keep my mixing skills fresh.
Did you know you can use the RSS feed generated by WordPress as a Podcast?
Some day soon I’m going to run out of original ideas for titles and they will be called November 2010 Mix, or something like that. This, however, shall not be a reason to stop posting a mix every month.
And for this month I have no theme, just stuff I like a lot right now, mostly new releases, quickly put together. And short, in comparison to earlier mixes.
As always, enjoy the music and leave a comment!
As you might have noticed I removed old posts with DnB sets and made new ones for each set. Everything is still available, but now I can put one picture in each post when I post a new set, and I like doing that because I had fun creating them. I know it’s useless and looks far from professional, but that’s because I am far from professional when it comes to creating graphics.
The title also reveals that I am interested in your opinions. Indeed, my dear readers, for I have no real clue (beyond what Google Analytics tells me) who you are, how many of you exist and most importently (and most absent in the analytics) what your opions are about my work. So please, leave a comment and tell me what you like and dislike.
I am still gladly available for gigs and also take requests for the sets I post here!
A friend suggested, because I tend to make long transitions between tracks, to pay more attention to the equalizers to better balance the two tracks out (or something like that, It’s kinda hard to explain in one sentence). Anyway, it was a good tip, and with my improved skills I made the following set which focuses on blending tracks seamlessly in one continuous flow of music. The result is a quite chilled and relaxed set, because energetic tracks just don’t sound too well played at the same time.
As you might have noticed I like to throw one or two songs with a different genre into the mix, and that’s because I started playing with beatmixing as an allround deejay and now I have the skills and equipement to make those funny transitions between drum and bass and hip-hop, for example, that I tried to make then.
Today I clicked the record button playing around with chill, mostly hip-hop in combination with some relaxing drum and bass. And the result is at least interesting to listen to. But to really mix the two genres I’d need twice the equipement I have to play with four decks. Two for a continues sound of drum and bass, and two for the rapflow of hip-hop.
