I have a LOT of material from last month, so I tried to push a lot of tracks in little time. Quite satisfied with the result, though not with the trouble I went trough do get it on youtube. First I got the message I could upload videos longer than 15 minutes, then I made a video of a 19 minute set, then it was rejected because of copyright issues, then I made a quick mix without that track and uploaded it to see if it was all right, then it was rejected because my longer-than-15-minute rights were revoked, then I made a shorter quick mix and uploaded it, it was all right, then I made the final video for that mix, then when I opened my upload page my longer-than-15-minutes rights were reinstated, then I decided I was done for this month and simply uploaded the video. Pfff. Not much fun.

My second monthly mix, sorry for the delay but early January I was busy recording a 6 hour mix of last year’s best tracks. The rule I invented and broke last month (make it 10 tracks) is going out of the window, I’ll just see what each month brings from now on.

* Sparkzeeman – Back In 5 Minutes
* ShockOne – Relapse (Tantrum Desire Remix)

* Dominator – Holes in Ya Chest (feat. Fat Man D)
* Sensai – Greater Power
* Mindscape & Jade – Orion
* Pleasure – Cradle
* The Damn Bell Doors, A Girl & A Gun – Stun Gun (Original Mix)

End of the year, time to look back at the many great tracks released this year. But since music isn’t particulary interesting to look at I’ve made a mix, to listen to. Some remarks:

  • I did not prepare a tracklist but improvised a set as usual. I did, obviously, only use tracks from 2011 and tried not to use the same artist or release to much
  • I’ve specialised in popular DnB and Jump-up but the two hours were gone before I got to those genres.
  • I tried some changes to my mixing style to make it cleaner and tighter, and am quite content with the result.
  • I found out I’ve acquired a lot of music in 2011, so part 2 contains only pop tracks

My best ten purchusases in the last month, just like last month, only this time not a playlist but a movie of a mix!

Yesterday I played two live sets at the CKI alumni party. The first 45 minute set resulted in an 60 minutes awesome full dance floor, so I only had 30 minutes for the second part but by then many people were already gone anyway. I’m pretty satisfied with the first set (except for the Pendulum track, but that’s what people want to hear) and was surprised at the positive reaction to the oldskool hits. I recorded everything so you can listen to both tightly packed sets here:

Part 1
Part 2

In case you didn’t know: I play every Friday from 15:00 to 17:00 (GMT+1) on VirtualDJ Radio channel 3. A great way to listen to some of the latest Drum and Bass releases (I always play my latest purchases and I buy new stuff at least once a week) and get some energy needed for the last hours of work before the weekend kicks in.

Since uploading every radio set is becoming less fun and more tedious every time I think I’m just gonna stop doing it. Also it’s not needed anymore because the folks at VirtualDJ Radio have build an awesome automatic system to listen back to every single set played on all three channels. So, if you’ve missed my  show or just want to listen to it again all you have to do is:

The last two weeks were dedicated to a three hour mix of tracks released this year! I know, it’s a lot, I was surprised myself. And since two hours a week time two weeks minus a three hour set equals one hour left there must be more, right? Right! The final hour was hard to mix because of all the broken rhythms, but also very cool because of the same broken rhythms. I like tracks with complicated drums and basslines.

Do not expect more posts here the coming weeks, because I’m working hard on a totally new website with a cool backend to make life easier for me and a equally cool fontend because cool people need cool websites. And I need a playground for web-related stuff.

Almost everybody wants to be popular, be liked by everyone, be the cool kid. While my first demo is obviously awesome it is a bit heavy for the general population. This second demo showcases my other Drum and Bass specialization. More pop-music like: lot’s of vocals, some covers and remixes and lot’s of catchy-ass melodies.

So there you are. Enjoy it whilst working at the otherwise boring office, cleaning your bathroom or on the road. And remember I’m always  willing to come play at your party, because there is only one thing better than mixing the music I love and that is doing it for a live crowd.

Way behind on my updates, some site-changing plans and busy as hell. That’s why it’s been a while. So without checking if I missed some or the numbering is correct I present to you: Last Friday’s Set! One disclaimer: I’ve been remapping my keyboard controls and found out they suck, because I pressed play/pause by accident two times.

By the way, did you know that in every set I post online the full track listing is in the lyrics field? Well, it is! Not in the comments because that usually doesn’t fit and in the lyrics field because that way I can see it on my iPhone.

I’ve been busy lately with defective hard disks (yes, plural) in my new MacBook Pro, missed a few sets because I had no hardware to DJ on and didn’t recorded a few because I had no second computer to record it on. The plus side to all this is that the set I did yesterday has a lot (about 80%) of new drum and bass released in the past couple of weeks! Set number nineteen and twenty are also available online, check my DJ page if you want to download those as well.

I finally made my first demo! I’ve wikipediaed the living shit out of Drum and Bass subgenres and I believe it is mainly Jump-up in this demo.  I could of course still be wrong ’cause music genre classification not an exact science, but it’s a fine name nonetheless.

I’ve spend most of the time in compiling the tracklisting. There are some minor mixing flaws (if you look for them), but I decided not to do several re-runs in order to get everything just right because it’s boring work and not meant as a studio album mix. Better to show I have good mixing skills than fake perfect mixing skills.

In order to get more gigs I decided I needed to focus on one particular music style, because being an all-round DnB DJ is cool but useless because I won’t be playing entire evenings. There are more than enough good DJs out there so booking a handful for an evening is commonplace. But because it was hard to pick one style to focus on I picked two. This is the first, and the second is more pop-music oriented: think dominant melodies, think vocals, think Hospital Records. This next demo is my current DJ project and will probably take a few weeks like the first did, because I need time to compile a good tracklisting and because I have a lot of other things to do in life.

Anyhow, enjoy an hour and a half of tightly packed bass-pumping beats!
